NPCC Alleges Mass Deletion of 1.57 Lakh Voter Names in Nagaland

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Tuesday alleged large-scale deletion of voters from the state’s electoral rolls under the SIR Draft Roll 2026, claiming that 1,57,752 names have been removed so far.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Kohima, held as part of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) campaign on “Vote Bachao Desh Bachao” and “Go Gyanu Go,” NPCC President and Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir said Nagaland is supposed to have a total of 13,57,208 voters as per the forms issued to the respective districts.

“However, the election department received only 11,99,456, which means 1,57,752 has been deleted,” he stated. The reasons cited for the deletions included voters being untraceable or absent, permanently shifted, deceased, already enrolled elsewhere, and others.

Jamir said the election department is currently carrying out another house-to-house exercise. He added that he had thoroughly discussed the matter with the department, which is yet to give its final verdict on the figures.

The press conference forms part of a nationwide campaign launched by the Congress party under Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi against alleged electoral fraud and the deletion of voters’ names from electoral rolls. Jamir said AICC observers are campaigning across the country as part of the exercise, and announced that a huge rally will be held on November 1.

NPCC Working President Khriedi Theunuo said the Congress has built a movement around the SIR issue, and that the Election Commission is now paying attention and coming forward to ensure the electoral roll is properly conducted and that no eligible voter is left out.

Pranav Shagotra, AICC Observer (Incharge Nagaland), who is currently in the state as part of the campaign, levelled sharper allegations, claiming that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was involved with Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. “What they did across India, was, they picked up the voter list and cut the vote,” he alleged.
