Outrage as Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh Slams Delay in NCERT Textbooks, Denounces Government Incompetence

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh sharply criticized the Education Ministry for what he termed a significant setback in children’s education due to delays in issuing new textbooks for Class 6. Utilizing Twitter on July 5, Ramesh highlighted that despite the commencement of the academic year, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has not yet released the necessary new textbooks for Science, Mathematics, and Social Sciences.

Ramesh directed his ire towards the National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC), alleging their failure to finalize the textbooks required for the academic curriculum. According to ministry officials, the printing process of these textbooks is expected to take an additional 10 to 15 days, suggesting a potential two-month delay before students receive the new educational materials.

The Congress leader’s criticism went beyond the bureaucratic delays, as he remarked on what he perceives as systemic issues within the ministry. He suggested that “either the rot runs deep, or the incompetence reaches new heights every day,” casting a grim light on the administration’s ability to manage educational resources effectively. In a broader political attack, Ramesh took aim at the Prime Minister, whom he derisively referred to as the “non-biological PM,” further accusing the National Testing Authority of undermining the examination process.

Ramesh’s statements underscore a broader concern within the opposition about the government’s handling of educational reforms and administrative efficiency. The delay in textbook distribution impacts student readiness and undermines the overall educational agenda, critics argue. As the school year progresses, the absence of updated learning materials poses a significant challenge for both teachers and students, potentially affecting academic performance and educational outcomes.

The Education Ministry has yet to respond to these accusations, leaving the public awaiting further clarification and resolution to what could become a prolonged dispute over educational governance.
