Historic Unity: Four Chin Groups in Mizoram Forge Peace with Five Pivotal Agreements
Representatives from four organizations in Myanmar’s Chin State convened at the office of Lalmuanpuia Punte, Vice Chairman of the Zo Re-Unification Organization (ZORO) and Political Adviser to the Mizoram Chief Minister, to discuss unification efforts. The meeting resulted in five key agreements aimed at fostering unity and peace among the Chin groups.
The organizations involved included the Chin National Front (CNF), Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC), the Chin Brotherhood, and the Chinland Council. Historically divided and engaged in armed conflicts, these groups acknowledged ZORO’s pivotal role in their unification efforts.
General Secretary L Ramdinliana Renthlei underscored ZORO’s peace-keeping mission, advocating for the unity of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo ethnic tribes globally. Punte, welcoming the representatives, emphasized the desire of both the Mizoram and Central governments for peaceful coexistence among the Chin groups. He assured that if these groups maintained tranquility, they could expect support from the Indian government.
The five agreements reached are as follows:
1. Acknowledgment of the common ancestry, language, culture, and shared aspirations of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo people.
2. Regret over past conflicts and a collective commitment to avoid such misunderstandings in the future.
3. Pledge to resolve future disagreements without resorting to violence.
4. Support for ZORO’s peace initiatives and an agreement to continue dialogue and negotiations.
5. Proposal to establish a Reconciliation Committee in the next meeting.
These agreements mark a significant step towards lasting peace and cooperation among the Chin groups, with ZORO playing a crucial mediating role.
