Urgent Plea: Liangmai Community’s Passionate Call for Essential Road Development and Unified Administration in Manipur
The Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) of Manipur has once again called upon Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to address two urgent issues affecting their community. Emphasizing the importance of these concerns for the well-being of the Liangmai population, the LNC has appealed for prompt government action.
The first concern involves the construction of a 23-kilometer road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), connecting Leimakhong to Langka. The LNC has labeled this road as a “vital lifeline” for the Liangmai community, highlighting its potential to significantly improve access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. By linking remote areas to urban centers, the road aims to enhance mobility and foster socio-economic integration. Stressing the transformative impact, the LNC urged the government to prioritize the road’s completion and ensure it meets high-quality standards. “This road will empower our residents, enabling them to thrive and build a more resilient future,” stated an LNC representative.
In addition to the road project, the LNC reinforced their second major appeal: unifying all Liangmai indigenous people under a singular administrative unit. The community believes that such an initiative will address their longstanding political marginalization and enhance their democratic representation. According to the LNC, creating one administrative framework for the Liangmai will secure their political rights, allowing for more effective participation in Manipur’s democratic processes. “This will promote equitable development for our land and people, ensuring we are free from discrimination and deprivation,” the LNC emphasized.
With these appeals, the LNC underscores the necessity for immediate action to facilitate the well-being and equitable development of the Liangmai community. They call on the Manipur government to act swiftly and decisively to meet these critical needs.
