Historic Moment: Atishi to Triumphantly Take Oath as Delhi’s Youngest Chief Minister Today
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi will be sworn in as Delhi’s youngest Chief Minister on Saturday in a landmark event for the capital’s political landscape. The ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 pm at Raj Bhavan and will feature the induction of five other AAP MLAs into the new council of ministers.
Notable leaders set to take the oath today include AAP stalwarts Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain. Additionally, Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra and a key Dalit representative, will debut in the Delhi Cabinet.
The transition in leadership sparks speculation of potential changes in ministerial portfolios. Atishi previously managed 13 significant portfolios, including finance, public works department (PWD), and education, under the outgoing Kejriwal government, pointing to possible reshuffles.
Atishi’s elevation followed a unanimous decision by the AAP legislature party on Tuesday after Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the Chief Minister post. Kejriwal stepped down days after being granted bail by the Supreme Court in a corruption case linked to the Delhi liquor policy scam, stating he would only return if the public validated his integrity in the upcoming February Assembly elections.
A Rhodes scholar and Oxford alumna, Atishi will become the third woman to lead Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit. Her appointment is a significant milestone as she prepares to confront the challenges and opportunities awaiting her administration.
