In a significant move to bolster innovation, entrepreneurship, and trade ties, Karnataka has proposed the creation of a sister city corridor between Bengaluru and San Francisco. Priyank Kharge, Minister for Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, and Information Technology, revealed this initiative following discussions with U.S. Ambassador Eric Garcetti.
During a press conference at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi, Kharge detailed the proposal, emphasizing its potential to expand U.S. market access for Karnataka’s emerging enterprises. The dialogue also included plans for establishing skill corridors with Austin, focusing on fintech, AI, and semiconductor manufacturing.
"This initiative aims to enhance economic, business, and technological investments while fostering significant cultural exchanges in commerce, health, education, and technology," Kharge stated.
Additionally, efforts to establish a U.S. consulate in Bengaluru were discussed. The Ambassador assured prioritization of this step, seen as crucial for creating job opportunities and easing visa availability for students from Karnataka and South India. Highlighting Bengaluru’s prominence, Garcetti noted its status as the world’s fourth-largest technology hub and its global ranking in AI and skill development.
The announcement underscores Karnataka’s strategic role in the global tech landscape and promises to strengthen Indo-U.S. collaborations.
