Game-Changing Leadership: New CM Empowers AAP to Supercharge Welfare Schemes Ahead of Crucial Delhi Poll
Kejriwal Steps Down as Delhi CM to Tackle Corruption Charges, Pave Way for New Initiatives
Delhi, September 17, 2024 (ANI) – In a surprising move, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his decision to step down within two days. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener’s announcement aims to regain narrative control and address corruption allegations head-on by seeking public endorsement of his innocence.
Kejriwal’s resignation is seen as a strategic move to maintain the effectiveness of the CM post ahead of the next city-state election. By appointing a new CM, AAP hopes to ensure the continuation of its welfare schemes and solidify its "Kejriwal model of governance," boosting its chances in the upcoming Assembly election. The party’s populist agenda has proven effective, securing power in both Delhi and Punjab.
Several key AAP initiatives, including a proposed ₹1,000 monthly stipend for women over 18 and the free coaching scheme for students, are currently stalled due to the need for Cabinet and other approvals. Kejriwal’s bail conditions have raised concerns about his ability to fulfill CM duties, prompting AAP to petition the Supreme Court for more relaxed terms.
Although AAP maintains that Kejriwal’s work as CM remains unaffected by his bail conditions, party insiders acknowledge some operational confusion. The BJP has demanded Kejriwal’s resignation, arguing his inability to perform due to these bail terms will adversely impact the public.
AAP’s political strategy has historically leaned on welfare measures and pro-people policies. From the ‘Bijli Paani Satyagraha’ in its early days to providing free electricity and water subsidies upon gaining power in 2015, the party has consistently focused on public welfare. Ahead of the 2020 Assembly election, AAP introduced free bus rides for women as a campaign promise, contributing to its electoral success.
Despite Kejriwal’s resignation, governance challenges remain as Cabinet decisions still require the approval of the Central government-appointed Lieutenant Governor, suggesting further hurdles lie ahead.
