Epic Triumph: How ‘The Days of Guts and Glory’ by ENPO is Shaping the Powerful Destiny of the People | MorungExpress
Eastern Nagaland’s Struggle for Frontier Nagaland Territory Gains Momentum
Dr. Aniruddha Babar of Tetso College, Nagaland, highlights the relentless efforts of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) in advocating for the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT). Founded in 1997, ENPO represents six districts—Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Noklak, and Shamator. It serves as the umbrella organization for key civil society groups such as the Eastern Nagaland Women Organization (ENWO) and the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF).
ENPO aims to address historical grievances stemming from systemic neglect and underdevelopment. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recently proposed the creation of FNT, which ENPO formally accepted on January 7, 2023, marking a significant step towards political and administrative autonomy for Eastern Nagaland.
Years of advocacy culminated between 2021 and 2024, with ENPO leaders holding numerous strategic meetings. Their dedication led to the acceptance of the MHA’s proposal and the region’s voluntary abstention from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, underscoring their resolve.
ENPO’s demand is not just administrative; it symbolizes a quest for socioeconomic-political empowerment and justice. The movement has garnered widespread public support, demonstrated through massive rallies across Eastern Nagaland. These gatherings highlighted the region’s collective demand for constitutional justice and the establishment of FNT.
However, recent concerns arise over the Nagaland Government’s attempt to involve the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) in separate discussions, potentially diluting ENPO’s unified voice. Critics argue that ENLU members, already part of the state government, should not add complexity to an already cohesive pursuit.
ENPO’s efforts symbolize a profound cultural renaissance and a bid for constitutional autonomy under Article 371(A). The organization’s relentless advocacy now stands as a beacon of hope and justice, aiming to secure a brighter, more equitable future for Eastern Nagaland, and resonating with democratic struggles worldwide.
