Resilient and Determined: Kejriwal Announces Emotional Resignation as Delhi CM
New Delhi: AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal to Resign as Delhi Chief Minister
New Delhi, September 15 (IANS): Arvind Kejriwal, chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced on Sunday that he would resign as Delhi Chief Minister within two days, expressing readiness for the "agnipariksha." In a speech at the party headquarters, Kejriwal declared he would not resume his role as CM until re-elected by the people of Delhi. He conveyed confidence that if people deemed him honest, they would vote for him in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
Kejriwal launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led NDA government, accusing them of using false cases to destabilize state governments where they couldn’t secure victory. He cited instances involving Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. Emphasizing the importance of unity, Kejriwal stated that running a government from jail is feasible if everyone worked together, stressing that it’s not about power but preserving democracy and the Constitution.
Reflecting on his refusal to resign despite being imprisoned in the excise policy case, Kejriwal noted it was to protect democracy. He also acknowledged the Supreme Court’s decision to grant him conditional bail and expressed respect for the Apex Court’s judgments. Moreover, he appealed to the Election Commission to schedule early polls in Delhi, ideally aligned with Maharashtra’s elections in November.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Kejriwal touted improvements in Delhi’s educational infrastructure, claiming that 1.8 million underprivileged children now have access to better education. He also pointed to transformations in government hospitals and the launch of mohalla clinics providing free medical services. Remarkably, the Delhi government has maintained a revenue surplus despite introducing free bus rides for women and other welfare initiatives, attributed to strict financial honesty.
Concluding, Kejriwal credited his administration’s success to honesty, urging the public to vote for him only if they believe in his integrity. He stressed that his motivation is not power or wealth, having previously left a high-ranking job to live among the people and serve the country.
