Tiger Shroff Shooting Case: 4 More Arrested, Including 2 Women
The probe into the conspiracy behind the attack on actor Tiger Shroff reached the national capital on Tuesday, with the Delhi Police Special Cell arresting four people, including two women, who allegedly played a vital role in arranging and transporting the weapons used by the three shooters who opened fire on the actor’s car in Mumbai.
The accused, identified as Kunal, Sumit, Radha and Babita, were handed over to the Mumbai Police after the arrests. According to investigators, Kunal and Sumit arranged the firearms, while Radha and Babita travelled to Dadar in Mumbai and handed the guns to the three shooters.
Shroff, the son of actor Jackie Shroff, had gone to play football in Mumbai’s Juhu on Sunday evening. As his BMW car made its way past fans gathered at the compound gate to catch a glimpse of the action star, two men opened fire on the vehicle from the front, firing six to seven rounds. One of the attackers was just inches from the actor and pointing directly at him, but his gun jammed when he squeezed the trigger, leaving Shroff unharmed. The actor’s driver and a bystander were injured in the attack.
Earlier this week, the shooters — Hrithik alias Roshan, 22, from Bihar, and Rehan, 18, and Phool Singh, 18, from Haryana — were arrested in Rajasthan’s Kota as they planned to flee to Nepal. The three reportedly have links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has claimed responsibility for the attack, citing Shroff’s proximity to actor Salman Khan, whom the gang has been attempting to target over the blackbuck poaching case.
Radha and Babita were arrested at the New Delhi Railway Station, while Kunal and Sumit were picked up in Sonipat, Haryana. Kunal, 21, and Sumit, 19, are natives of Sonipat, Radha is from Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur, and Babita hails from Azamgarh in the same state.
Police said Kunal, recently released from jail on bail, met Anil Pandit, the gangster who claimed to have ordered the hit on Shroff, through a friend from Harsana village. He allegedly brought a pistol and 20 cartridges from Amritsar and, two months ago, convinced Radha to transport the weapon to Mumbai. On October 15, Kunal took the two women to New Delhi Railway Station, and the group stayed in touch through an encrypted app, with Kunal relaying Anil Pandit’s instructions.
Two days later, the women got off at Mumbai’s Dadar station and checked into a hotel, where a minor boy took the bag containing the weapons from Radha. The three men attacked Shroff the next day. The same day, police said, Radha and Babita boarded the Haridwar Express from Dadar and left for Delhi.
Sources told NDTV that Shroff was not the original target. During interrogation, the shooters said they had arrived in Mumbai to assassinate another high-profile individual but, after scouting areas the person frequented, realised they could not reach him. They then shifted their focus to Shroff after learning — through reels posted by his fans — that the actor does not have police protection, a source said. The shooters told police they intended to spread fear within Bollywood by killing Shroff, and had been paid Rs 50,000 as an advance along with promises of more money and employment.
