Union Minister Giriraj Singh Inspires with Exciting Kickoff of ‘Bharat in Paris’ Olympic Marathon in Delhi
Union Minister Giriraj Singh and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari inaugurated the ‘Bharat in Paris’ Olympic marathon in Delhi on July 14. The marathon, aimed at fostering awareness about recreational sports in the capital, is part of a larger initiative spearheaded by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to promote sporting activities nationwide in the lead-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
During the event, Singh spotlighted India’s commendable position, currently ranked third in Olympic team qualifications. He called on parents to encourage their children to balance sports with academics. He also emphasized the government’s robust support for sports development, noting an investment of nearly Rs 4,000 crores allocated to the sector.
This recent marathon follows a similar event on June 23, launched by former Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The ‘Bharat in Paris’ campaign is designed to build momentum and support for Indian athletes as they gear up for the 2024 Olympic Games.
Scheduled from July 26 to August 11, the 2024 Paris Olympics will see 113 Indian athletes competing, each having already secured their spots. The event’s mascot, Olympic Phryge, inspired by the Phrygian cap, and the official slogan, “Games Wide Open,” symbolize the spirit and inclusivity of the Games.
This initiative reflects the commitment to nurturing a strong sporting culture in India, aligning with the broader objective of excelling on the global Olympic stage.
