Manipur Police Arrest Two Amid Thoubal District Protests and Recover Arms Cache
In a proactive measure to address the ongoing protests in Thoubal district, the Manipur Police arrested two individuals on September 11. Acting on specific intelligence, law enforcement apprehended Laishram Roshan Singh (26) of Khangabok Tangkha Leikai and Moirangthem Bumbum Singh (21) of Khangabok Meisnam Leikai, from the southern side of Sanjenthong under Porompat PS, Imphal East District. A live tear gas shell was recovered from the suspects during the arrest.
In a separate operation, police conducted a search and area domination exercise in the vulnerable hill and valley districts of Shejang, Churachandpur. The sweep resulted in the recovery of a significant arsenal, including a 7.5-foot rocket, a modified M-16 rifle, a large country-made mortar, a medium-sized country-made mortar, three medium bomb launchers, four bomb launchers, and three country-made mortar bombs.
Ensuring a smooth supply chain, police facilitated the movement of 262 and 95 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively, transporting essential goods. To enhance security, strict measures were undertaken, especially in vulnerable areas, with security convoys provided in sensitive stretches to ensure safe vehicular movement.
As part of a state-wide security initiative, a total of 110 checkpoints were established across the hill and valley districts of Manipur. The efforts led to the detention of five individuals for various violations in different districts, underscoring the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
