NASA, SpaceX Launch 4 Astronauts to ISS in Exciting Mission
NASA and SpaceX launched the Crew-13 mission to the International Space Station on Thursday, sending four crew members into orbit aboard a Dragon spacecraft from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
The spacecraft lifted off at 11:10 a.m. Eastern Time, or 4:10 p.m. GMT, atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. It was scheduled to dock with the ISS at about 7 p.m. Eastern Time, or midnight GMT, on Thursday.
Crew-13 is the 13th rotational mission to the station conducted by a SpaceX Dragon under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. The crew comprises NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Joshua Kutryk, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov.
During their stay, the crew members will conduct scientific research and technology demonstrations. Their work includes studying tissues derived from human stem cells to support medical research, disease modeling and future drug screening for conditions such as heart disease and Parkinson’s. They will also explore crop production in space, investigate abnormalities in blood flow under microgravity, and test new diagnostic equipment designed to monitor crew health.
