Tragic Turn: Arunachal Commuters and Vehicles Targeted After Heartbreaking Assam Truck Driver’s Murder
Tensions between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have intensified following the tragic murder of an Assam truck driver in Daporijo, Arunachal Pradesh. The violent incident has heightened security concerns and prompted urgent calls for government intervention.
On August 22, 2024, Sanjay Nath, a truck driver hailing from Assam, was brutally abducted and murdered in Daporijo. The crime involved a group of individuals, some of whom have been apprehended. After an intensive investigation, the Daporijo police arrested nine suspects, including key suspects Tabu Doni and Jeke Marbom. Nath’s body was subsequently found buried near the Subansiri River, adding to the gruesome nature of the incident.
In light of the escalating situation, the All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) has voiced deep concern. The organization is urging the Arunachal Pradesh government to address the Inner Line Permit (ILP) issues and guarantee the safety of commuters from Assam. They have also called for the establishment of an ILP office at the Likabali Check Gate to facilitate smoother travel and prevent future incidents.
Dobin Sonam, President of AAPPTF, emphasized the critical need for peace and cooperation between the two states. He assured that efforts are underway to lift the economic blockade imposed by the Assam Public Transport Union. The blockade, a response to the violence, has significantly disrupted travel and transport between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, further escalating tensions.
The murder of Sanjay Nath and the subsequent reactions underscore the fragile relationship between the two neighboring states and the urgent necessity for effective intervention to restore peace and security. Both state governments are now under pressure to take decisive actions to de-escalate tensions and ensure the safety and well-being of their citizens.
