Last Updated: Sep 09, 2024 | 2:12 PM IST
Apple is set to unveil its iPhone 16 series today, but it will come without some of the anticipated advanced Apple Intelligence features. Select AI functionalities are expected to debut next month, while more sophisticated tools, such as Genmoji for AI-generated emojis and Image Playground for image creation, are postponed until the iOS 18.2 update anticipated in December or early next year.
Upcoming iOS 18.2 and Its Features
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that Apple’s new image-generation features will be delayed until iOS 18.2, expected in December. The update will introduce the Image Playground app and the Genmoji feature. Furthermore, Apple may incorporate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into its virtual assistant Siri with this update.
Image Playground App
Image Playground is designed to allow iPhone users to create images using text prompts. Previewed during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the app will enable users to choose various elements for the generated images, such as themes and costumes. It will be a standalone app but integrated into iOS, allowing image generation in other apps like Notes.
Genmoji Feature
The Genmoji feature will enable users to create custom emojis directly within the Messages app by describing the desired emoji. Apple Intelligence will generate and preview the emojis based on user input, which can then be selected and sent in conversations. Users can also generate custom emojis using pictures from their Photos app.
ChatGPT Integration with Siri
At WWDC 2024, Apple announced that Siri would soon gain advanced AI capabilities through the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This will enable users to query ChatGPT via Siri, and the chatbot will be accessible within native apps like Mail and Notes for enhanced user interactions.
