Emraan Hashmi Reveals ‘Rooh’ Is an Emotional Horror Film
Mumbai, June 23 — Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi will headline Rooh, a high-concept musical-horror film directed by Mayank Sharma, with a theatrical release planned for 2027 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The project is being presented as a contemporary, spine-chilling cinematic experience that blends new-age horror with music and emotional drama.
Emraan said the film “immediately connected” with him, adding: “Rooh is a film that immediately connected with me because it brings together new-age horror, emotion and music in a very powerful way.” He described the film’s world as intense, emotional and cinematic, and said he is keen for audiences to experience it on the big screen.
Mayank Sharma, best known as the creator-director of Prime Video’s Breathe franchise, co-wrote Rooh with Vishal Kapoor, whose credits include Lapachhapi and Chhorii. The film is produced by Vikram Khakhar and Sunny Khanna under Vicked Films Productions.
Speaking about the project, Mayank said Rooh is his attempt to “create a film that goes beyond fear,” calling it “emotionally layered and immersed with unsettling atmosphere” and praising the contemporary cinematic treatment. He added he was “thrilled to collaborate with Emraan for this deeply layered character” and that the team hopes to deliver a truly unique and unforgettable horror experience.
Emraan, who has previously starred in horror titles such as Raaz: The Mystery Continues, Raaz 3, Ek Thi Daayan, Raaz Reboot and Dybbuk, will also appear in Awarapan 2. The sequel to the 2007 Mohit Suri-directed film Awarapan is being helmed by Nitin Kakkar and features Randeep Hooda, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles.
