Mysuru Triple Suicide Tied to Leaked Photos — Accused Arrested
Karnataka police arrested Ullas Gowda on Tuesday in connection with the alleged circulation of a young woman’s private photographs and videos, an act investigators say may have driven the woman and her parents to die by suicide in Mysuru district. The accused was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody, police said.
The deaths took place on Monday in Halekempayyanahundi village in T. Narasipura taluk. The victims were identified as Rakshita, whose wedding was due on June 24, and her parents Shivanna and Nagaratna. Police said the three allegedly consumed poison and died by suicide after the private images and videos were reportedly circulated.
The case is registered at Varuna Police Station. Mysuru Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi formed a special team to trace the accused after he reportedly went absconding. The team, led by Inspectors Dhananjay and Shivananda Shetty, tracked and arrested Ullas Gowda in Mysuru, officials said.
Investigators say Gowda was known to the family and visited their home occasionally. Family members have alleged that he circulated Rakshita’s private photographs and videos to her fiancé with the intention of disrupting the marriage. Police are probing how the accused obtained the material and are investigating claims that Rakshita faced severe harassment.
The deaths sparked widespread outrage in the village. Residents staged protests demanding Gowda’s immediate arrest and, according to reports, prevented police from shifting the bodies for post-mortem and legal formalities until action was taken against the accused.
Police have registered a case and say further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances leading to the deaths and the accused’s role. Officials did not provide additional details about charges filed; inquiries into the source and distribution of the images continue.
The incident follows other violent and tragic cases in the region in recent months. In Mandya district, a 65-year-old garment trader allegedly killed his wife and son before taking his own life amid mounting debts; the victims were later named as Prabhakar (65), his wife Jyothi (55) and their son Santosh (28). In March 2026, police said a 27-year-old man, identified as Mohan Gowda, killed his mother and sister and critically injured his nephew amid financial stress, before attempting to end his own life.
