The Korolevs appeared in a Brisbane court, facing charges under 2018 espionage laws, each carrying a maximum 15-year prison sentence. They were remanded in custody until September 20 and did not request bail. According to police, the wife, a technician in the Australian Army, traveled to Russia and instructed her husband to access defense materials from her official account.
In addition to its judicial measures, Australia has been actively supplying defense equipment to Ukraine, banning exports of aluminum ores to Russia, and sanctioning over 1,000 Russian individuals and entities. The Russian embassy has requested detailed information from Australian authorities on the Korolevs’ case and is considering consular support options.
