Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch officers have uncovered a large inter‑state cyber fraud ring and arrested two suspects from Rajasthan in a recent operation, police said. The accused, identified as Sumer Singh Bharatlal Meena and Akash Pappulal Meena, are alleged members of a syndicate that duped students and their parents by promising leaked NEET question papers and charging advance fees for “premium” access.
According to investigators, the ring never possessed any genuine exam papers. Instead, its members targeted anxious NEET aspirants on social media platforms such as Telegram and Instagram, offering false assurances of access to question papers in exchange for money. The group reportedly created multiple Telegram channels and posed as successful students to build credibility and expand their network of victims.
Police said the gang attempted to hide financial trails by routing payments through online gaming platforms and other opaque channels to frustrate tracking. Investigators have so far recovered evidence pointing to fraud amounting to roughly Rs 1.5 crore. Initial inquiries indicate the scheme targeted about 1,000 people, and police have recorded complaints from around 70 victims to date.
The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch emphasized that no NEET question papers were actually leaked and described the operation as an exploitation of students’ and parents’ fears. Authorities said the probe is ongoing and that they are actively tracing other members of the inter‑state network. Victims are urged to file complaints with cyber‑crime authorities and to avoid paying money in response to unsolicited offers of exam papers or “premium” access.
