Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not remain in office a year from now, alleging an “institutional revolt” and claiming he had been receiving “inside information” from within the system. Mr. Gandhi argued that rising public pressure over economic distress could shake institutions. “Now, people see that there will be tremendous pressure from the janta (public), and they realise that if they continue in the same direction, it will be a risk,” he said. “If the public knows that the electoral system is rigged and becomes angry over economic pressure, poverty and pain, don’t you think the Election Commissioner would be scared? So, now the system is shaking.”
He warned the government might resort to measures “like an Emergency to suppress public pressure.” In his assessment, he said, “Modi-ji won’t be Prime Minister in one year.”
Without giving specifics, Mr. Gandhi also claimed he regularly received information concerning Mr. Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mr. Shah’s son, other union ministers, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his sons.
