Historic US–Iran Peace Deal: Trump Lifts Strait of Hormuz Blockade
US President Donald Trump said on Friday he was making a “final” decision on whether to accept a peace deal with Iran, declaring in a social media post that any agreement must include Iran’s permanent renunciation of nuclear weapons and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping. “I will be meeting now, in the Situation Room, to make a final determination,” Trump wrote, outlining several conditions he said were required for a settlement.
In the post, Trump said Iran “will complete the immediate removal” of mines from the strait and that the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports “will now be lifted,” allowing oil and other tankers to resume movement. He did not provide independent confirmation that Iran had agreed to those steps or that the blockade had already been lifted.
Trump also said enriched uranium stockpiles in Iran “will be unearthed by the United States… in close coordination and conjunction with the Islamic Republic of Iran, plus the International Atomic Energy Agency, and DESTROYED,” signaling a plan for U.S. involvement alongside international inspectors in securing and eliminating nuclear material.
Responding to reports that Iran has sought financial compensation for the conflict and that the White House has discussed possible investments, Trump said “no money will be exchanged, until further notice.” He added that only “items, of far less importance, have been agreed to,” without specifying which items those were.
The post framed the demands as preconditions for any peace arrangement but left key details unresolved, including whether Iranian authorities have formally accepted the terms and the timeline for verification and implementation.
