Indian Man Jumps on Tracks to Retrieve Indonesian Woman’s Dupatta
An elderly man at New Delhi Railway Station leapt onto the tracks to retrieve a dupatta for an Indonesian woman in a video that has since gone viral. The clip, posted on Instagram by creator @indaha.l, shows the woman standing at the edge of a stationary train carriage when her long scarf slipped into the gap between the train and the platform.
As she fumbled with her camera, a passerby quickly assessed the situation, signalled her to wait and first tried to reach the garment with his hand. When that failed, he climbed down into the space between train and platform and pulled the dupatta free. After returning it, he declined the woman’s offer of help, climbed back onto the platform and walked away without seeking thanks.
The woman, who identified herself in the post, said she did not expect someone to “go all out and actually jump down onto the tracks to help.” She added, “Honestly, I’m blank and confused about what to do because I feel so sorry for taking someone’s help like this.” In her caption she likened the rescuer to “Rahul,” referencing Shah Rukh Khan’s character from the 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and thanked him for his quick help.
As of the last update, the video had amassed more than 41 million views and thousands of comments, with users praising the man’s quiet, selfless act. One commenter wrote, “He quietly picked up the shawl for the girl walking ahead and moved on without expecting even a simple ‘thank you’ in return.” Another said, “He didn’t have a secret agenda…he just saved the day, and walked like a hero.”
The clip has struck a chord online as an example of everyday kindness, while also serving as a reminder of the risks around railway platforms and the importance of caution near moving or stationary trains.
