Tripura CM Vows: Bengal Will Be Freed From TMC’s Cruel Rule

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on April 26 addressed a large rally at Matiari Ramsita Maidan in Kaliganj, West Bengal, saying voters in the first phase had given “strong support” to the Bharatiya Janata Party and that the blessings of Mata Tripura Sundari would help “free Bengal” from what he called the “cruel rule” of the Trinamool Congress.

Speaking at the rally for the BJP candidate in the Kaliganj Assembly constituency, Saha said he had come “from Tripura, where one of the 51 Shakti Peeths is located,” and brought the deity’s blessings. “The BJP candidate here will go from house to house with the blessings of Mata Tripura Sundari, and I have come here with her blessings to free the people of Bengal from the so‑called cruel rule of the Trinamool Congress,” he said.

Saha described the current election as “very important for everyone” and launched a series of criticisms against the ruling Trinamool Congress. He claimed the party’s “voice has become very weak” and argued the administration was unable to perform strongly.

On the issue of border security, Saha referenced past confrontations over illegal infiltration and recalled an incident when West Bengal’s chief minister, he said, “threw papers at the Speaker’s chair” on the matter. He accused the state government of now treating illegal infiltration as “a normal process” and questioned why the Border Security Force was being stopped. “The Centre has repeatedly asked for land to strengthen border fencing, but the state government has not provided it,” he added.

Saha also raised economic concerns, saying West Bengal — once known for its industries and skilled workers — is losing people who are leaving for other states due to a lack of factories, industry and a proper working environment.

Reiterating his assessment of the first phase, Saha said the people of Bengal had already shown strong support for the BJP and expressed confidence about the second phase: “I am sure that in the second phase as well, the people of Bengal will overwhelmingly vote for the BJP and press the ‘lotus’ symbol on the EVMs, regardless of fear and intimidation.”
