Amit Shah Condemns Kharge: “Breached Every Standard” on PM Modi
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, April 21 sharply criticised the Congress leadership, accusing the party of lowering the standards of public discourse after remarks allegedly made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a post on social media platform X, Shah said the Congress was “hitting new lows” and that the party had repeatedly diminished the quality of political dialogue in the country.
Shah alleged that Kharge had “breached every standard of public conduct” by referring to the prime minister in derogatory terms. He framed the purported remarks as not only an affront to Mr. Modi but also as an insult to the citizens who support him.
Describing the comments as “highly condemnable,” Shah said such statements undermined democratic decorum. He argued that personal attacks against the prime minister have been a recurring pattern and suggested they erode the tone of public debate.
Highlighting the government’s record, Shah credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership with effectively curbing terrorism “over the past several years,” presenting this as part of his defence of the administration’s conduct and achievements.
The Congress had not issued an immediate response at the time of filing this report. The exchange adds to escalating political rhetoric between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Congress ahead of key political developments, and underscores growing tensions over the tone and conduct of national political debate.
