Major Tinsukia-Arunachal Crackdown: Seven ULFA (I) Linkmen Arrested
Security forces arrested seven alleged Over Ground Workers (OGWs) linked to the banned ULFA (Independent) in a coordinated operation across Assam’s Tinsukia district and adjoining areas of Arunachal Pradesh, police said. The arrests, carried out at multiple locations following intelligence inputs, aim to disrupt the militant outfit’s local support network and stem alleged extortion and information-sharing activities.
The detained have been identified as Berlin Neog (Bordumsa), Mithu Gohain and Lilambar Moran (Pengeri), Bikash Deka (Kakopathar), Shiva Dev and Paritosh Dev (both from Miao, Arunachal Pradesh), and Manab Dey (Makum). Police say the individuals were suspected of acting as linkmen-passing sensitive information and coordinating between ground operatives and higher-ups in the outfit.
“A police official” confirmed the arrests were possible after teams carried out operations across several locations in the district, adding that the suspects had allegedly exchanged information with ULFA (I) over an extended period. Police sources said the accused were under surveillance for some time before being taken into custody.
A senior police official noted that the movements and activities of the suspects raised strong suspicion of involvement in unlawful networks. Officials said the arrests were made in separate but coordinated actions and that the suspects had reportedly maintained contact with the outfit for a long period, facilitating communication and logistics.
Authorities stressed the objective behind the arrests is to ascertain the depth of each individual’s involvement, identify other possible associates, and dismantle any existing support networks aiding the militant group. Security agencies describe OGWs as playing a key role in sustaining militant operations through communication, coordination and logistical support.
Interrogation of all seven accused is underway as investigators work to trace additional links. Further investigation continues, and officials have not ruled out more arrests in connection with the case.
