Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress candidate for the Jorhat Assembly constituency and president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, cast his vote Thursday morning alongside his mother, Dolly Gogoi, at polling station number 52 at Devi Charan Baruah Higher Secondary Girls’ School. The pair joined other voters in a queue and followed the prescribed voting procedures before marking their ballots.
Speaking after voting, Gaurav Gogoi described the moment as personally meaningful. “I feel fortunate that my mother, who could not be present during the Lok Sabha elections because of her health, has come to vote with us today,” he said.
Commenting on voter turnout and public mood, he said the visible enthusiasm among voters signals support for “good leadership and the ideal of a progressive Assamese society.” He added that the election reflects broad democratic aspirations across the electorate.
Expressing confidence in the outcome, Gogoi said: “Today’s question is about the people’s aspirations and the ideals of a democratic nation. We are grateful for the support and goodwill we have received.”
Highlighting rising political awareness, he noted, “The people’s voice is strong, which is a positive sign. Assamese society values self-respect and wants to move forward with confidence.”
Before heading to the polling station, he paid floral tribute to former chief minister Tarun Gogoi at his residence in Nazira. He said he draws inspiration from his father’s legacy in understanding the state’s history, culture and public concerns.
After voting, Dolly Gogoi expressed satisfaction with the voting process and offered her support for her son.
