Manipur Tronglaobi Attack: Victims’ Family Demands Arrest in 5 Days
The family of victims of a bomb attack in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, Manipur, has demanded that the state government arrest all those responsible within five days, saying no amount of ex-gratia compensation can replace the lives lost. The appeal came as Oinam (Ongbi) Binita, who was critically injured in the blast, remains under treatment at Raj Medicity. The attack occurred at around 1 a.m. on April 7, 2026, under the jurisdiction of Moirang police station and killed her two children, five-year-old Oinam Tomthin and five-month-old Oinam Yaisana.
The family made the demand during a media interaction at Raj Medicity, where Binita is being treated. Their statement acknowledged the government’s announcement of financial assistance but stressed that monetary relief cannot substitute for justice or an end to the violence that has plagued parts of the state.
Children’s grandmother Oinam Loidam urged authorities to apprehend the real perpetrators within five days to ensure accountability and to deter further attacks. She said swift arrests are necessary to prevent similar incidents and restore public confidence.
Loidam also described the emotional toll on Binita. Because of her fragile condition after the blast, Binita was initially not told about her children’s deaths; she reportedly learned of the tragedy through a newspaper, which left her devastated and further damaged her health.
The family questioned claims that peace in the state is improving and called on the government to take stringent steps to restore lasting security. The attack has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in Manipur and intensified local calls for justice and stability.
