
Manipur Security Forces Arrest Nine, Seize Drugs Amid Intensified Raids
A joint security team of central forces, Delhi Police and Manipur Police commandos arrested nine people and recovered contraband during coordinated operations at sensitive locations in Manipur on Sunday, April 5, 2026, the police said in a morning bulletin issued on Monday, April 6, 2026. The operations formed part of intensified search and area-domination exercises across fringe and vulnerable areas of the state.
Teams installed and maintained 114 nakas (checkpoints) across hill and valley districts as part of the drive, and two persons were detained at these checkpoints, the bulletin said. Patrols and searches targeted known trafficking routes, suspected militant hideouts and illegal cultivation sites.
In the first operation in the North AOC area of Imphal West, two alleged drug smugglers from Bihar — Ankit Rai, 22, of Chhotka Dhakaich (Buxar) and Aman Kumar, 21, of Joriyahi (Sitamarhi) — were arrested. Authorities recovered 312 grams of brown sugar from their possession.
In a separate raid near Hapta under Porompat police station in Imphal East, Md. Iqbal, 23, and Md. Ajimuddin, 25, both residents of Kwakta in Bishnupur district, were arrested and 11 soap cases containing heroin No. 4 were seized.
Security forces, working with the Forest Department, also conducted an anti-poppy plantation drive in the Songphel area, covering the Bungjang and Saichang hill ranges under Thoubal Dam police station; two huts used in the plantations were destroyed during the operation.
In Tengnoupal district, two cadres of the Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL) — Thokchom Ingocha Singh alias Kebi, 31, of Khangabok Mayai Leikai (Thoubal), and Thokchom Ragunath Meitei alias Birjit, 48, of Kakching Ningthou Leikai (Kakching) — were apprehended between Border Pillars 72 and 73 in Yangoubung village under Moreh police station.
Further arrests included an alleged active cadre of the banned UNLF-K, Laishram Inaotomba Singh alias Dondon, 19, of Jiribam, detained at Palace Compound, Mahabali Mamang (Porompat PS), from whom a mobile phone was seized; an alleged PREPAK-PRO cadre, Victor Takhelmayum, 19 (also known as Olen/Johnson/Naoba), arrested from Sanjenbam Khunou with a phone and Aadhaar card; and an alleged KCP-A cadre, Thokchom Punachandra Meitei alias Tunal, 28, arrested from his residence.
The police bulletin added that traffic enforcement continued alongside security operations: between March 30 and April 5, 2026, 120 challans totalling Rs 1,88,500 were issued, while between March 29 and April 4, 2026, tinted films were removed from three vehicles and one vehicle was seized. Security forces said search operations and area domination exercises will continue across districts.
