Shocking Scandal: 4 Mumbai Cops Caught on CCTV Planting Drugs, Immediately Suspended
Four Mumbai police officers were suspended following the release of CCTV footage allegedly showing them planting drugs on a man during a raid, which later went viral. According to PTI, the suspended personnel comprised a police sub-inspector and three constables, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XI) Rajtilak Roshan.
The officers, part of the Anti-Terror Cell of the Khar police station, conducted a raid on an open plot of land in the Kalina area on Friday evening, detaining a man named Daniel. However, the CCTV footage purportedly revealed one of the officers placing something into Daniel’s hip pocket.
In a local news channel interview, Daniel alleged that the policemen initially threatened to frame him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He claimed they released him after realizing their actions were recorded by a CCTV camera.
DCP Roshan informed PTI that disciplinary measures were initiated against the four officers for deviating from established procedures and their suspicious conduct, as evidenced in the video. The officers have been suspended pending an inquiry. “They acted on information about drugs, but everything they did is seen in the CCTV,” he elaborated.
Additionally, a person associated with Daniel claimed to the news channel that Daniel was targeted at the behest of a builder involved in a dispute over the plot where the arrest occurred.
This incident has sparked concerns about police integrity and procedural adherence, underscoring the importance of accountability within law enforcement agencies.
