PM Modi Unveils Guwahati Elevated Port Corridor — Boost for Trade
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 13, 2026 inaugurated an elevated road corridor linking Pandu Port to National Highway 27 in Guwahati and launched a package of infrastructure projects valued at Rs 526 crore aimed at strengthening inland waterways and promoting tourism along the Brahmaputra River. The announcement and inaugurations were part of a broader push to improve riverine connectivity and support passenger and freight movement in Assam.
The projects mentioned by the organisers include the new elevated corridor at Pandu Port and the laying of the foundation stone for cruise-related works on the Brahmaputra, among other river and tourism infrastructure initiatives. Authorities described the measures as targeted investments to develop the port’s access and to create facilities that can support river cruises and related economic activity.
By directly linking Pandu Port to NH-27, the elevated corridor is intended to streamline movement between river and road transport, reducing congestion at the port approach and improving the efficiency of cargo handling and passenger access. The Rs 526-crore package, officials say, is meant to bolster inland water transport and attract more tourist traffic to the Brahmaputra, with the aim of generating local employment and supporting regional economic growth.
