Major Bust: Three KCP, PREPAK-PRO & UPPK Arrested in Imphal
Security forces arrested three insurgents from separate underground outfits and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in multiple operations across Manipur over the past 48 hours, police said on Saturday. The arrests and recoveries took place in and around Imphal and in southern Kakching district, officials said, without giving further operational details.
In the first operation, security personnel detained an active cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), identified as Chanambam Henba Singh, alias Lanchenba, 21, a resident of Iroisemba Mang Hiden in Imphal West. He was arrested in the Tera Lukram Leirak area under Lamphel police station limits.
A second operation led to the capture of a member of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-PRO), named as Ningthoujam Kennedy, 41, also known by the aliases Guli and Angousana, from Khewa Bazar. In a separate action near Imphal airport, security forces apprehended Khoisnam Morendrajit Singh, alias Kumar, 42, a cadre of the banned United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), from Malom Tulihal Makha Leikai.
Security forces also recovered a substantial arms cache from the Chingkhei Ching foothill area in Imphal East. Seized items included a .303 rifle with magazine, a .22 rifle, a 9mm SMG (submachine gun) with magazine, two No. 36 hand grenades, one improvised explosive device, and a WP No. 80 MK-1 grenade. Officers additionally recovered 57 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, three Lethod shells, two empty SLR (self-loading rifle) cases, multiple magazines for INSAS and SLR weapons and pistols, two tube launchers and two .303 charger clips.
In a separate seizure in the Keirak Awang Loukon Chingol area of southern Kakching district, forces recovered an Amogh carbine, two locally made Lathode guns, two single-barrel firearms, seven tear-smoke shells, three tube-launching devices, two .36 HE grenades with detonators, 50 rounds of ammunition and about 100 empty cases. Police provided the details of the arrests and recoveries.
