Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led by president Gaurav Gogoi, continued its statewide “Samay Parivartan – Mati Bachao, Jati Bachao” campaign on Friday, marked by prayers at Batadrava Than and energetic slogans resonating through Kaliabor and Kaziranga. This initiative aims to rally support amid allegations concerning land dealings linked to the Chief Minister’s family.
Dismissing claims of internal strife within the Congress by the BJP, Gogoi was joined by senior leaders Pradyut Bordoloi, Rakibul Hussain, Debabrata Saikia, and Bhupen Bora, along with hundreds of enthusiastic supporters. The procession chanted “Deshotkoi Mami Dangor Nohoy” as they journeyed toward Darigaji village in Barbhagia Mouza, where they held a protest outside land reportedly acquired by the Chief Minister’s wife after a rapid change from agricultural to industrial use.
The group then proceeded to Kaziranga, showcasing their discontent outside Bani Resort, also said to be owned by the Chief Minister’s wife. Gogoi further alleged that the Chief Minister’s family possesses over 100 bighas of land in the Nagaon district alone, asserting that they are attempting to reroute the National Highway through private land in Kaliabor.
Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of the Opposition, recalled Assembly discussions regarding the acquisition of 50 bighas in Darigaji by Pride East Entertainment Pvt Ltd, a company owned by the Chief Minister’s wife, which was followed by an overnight conversion of the land and the allocation of Rs 10 crore in central assistance.
