Urgent Appeal: Achik Group’s Heartfelt Demand for Crucial Repair of Bajengdoba-Borjhora Road in Meghalaya
The Achik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) has called on Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to urgently address the dire condition of the road stretching from Bajengdoba to Borjhora in North Garo Hills. The route, which formerly required only 40 minutes of travel, now takes over two hours due to numerous potholes and severe degradation.
Highlighting the issue through a formal memorandum, the ASPF emphasized the significant hardship faced by local residents due to the road’s poor condition. “The deteriorating state of the road is a major inconvenience for the people in the area. What was once a 40-minute journey now stretches into an arduous 2-hour trip,” the memorandum stated.
The organization underscored that this road falls within the constituency of a National People’s Party (NPP) legislator and acts as a crucial lifeline for the local population. Residents rely on this route for daily commutes related to small-scale business activities and the transportation of raw materials across the state.
Crucially, this road links National Highway 51 at Bajengdoba to the Rongsai AMPT road via Borjhora. Positioned on the Assam-Meghalaya border, Rongsai is a key commercial hub, with numerous farmers from Garo Hills depending on this route to transport goods such as bananas, pineapples, areca nuts, and rubber sheets.
“The road’s numerous potholes severely disrupt travel and the efficient movement of goods,” the ASPF lamented in their plea to the Chief Minister. The organization argued that repairing the road would not only alleviate daily travel hardships but also invigorate the local economy by providing a more direct link to the plain belts of Garo Hills, avoiding a detour through Assam.
The ASPF’s appeal to CM Sangma calls for immediate intervention, highlighting that improving this vital infrastructure is essential for the region’s economic well-being and the livelihood of its residents.
