Breaking News: Life-Saving Mpox Ward Launched at GRH Madurai – A Beacon of Hope
New Mpox Ward Established at Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai
In response to directives from Tamil Nadu’s Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, a special ward has been set up at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai to handle potential Mpox cases. This precautionary measure follows the World Health Organisation’s recent declaration of Mpox as a ‘public emergency of international concern.’
The newly established ward is equipped with 20 beds and necessary medications to manage viral infections and fevers, ensuring readiness for any detected cases. GRH Dean, C. Dharmaraj, stated that although no Mpox cases have been identified in the state so far, the facility is prepared to handle any potential outbreak. In instances of suspected cases, samples will be sent to Guindy for further medical examination.
Dr. Dharmaraj emphasized that the establishment of the ward is a standard protocol during such health alerts and assured the public that there is no need for panic. The preparation of equipment and medications is part of routine precautionary measures to ensure swift and effective response to any health emergencies.
