Mizoram: A Beacon of CSR Through SDG Gains and Transparency
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced on Tuesday that the state’s peaceful atmosphere, minimal corruption, high literacy rates, and strong progress toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) make it an attractive option for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) investments. He highlighted the cultural ethos of the Mizo people, known as tlawmngaihna, which embodies selflessness, hospitality, and a willingness to assist others, as a foundation for fostering CSR initiatives that can economically benefit the local population.
During the inauguration of the CSR portal “Mizoram CSR Connect” at the Aijal Club, Lalduhoma urged corporate entities and civil society organizations to actively participate in CSR efforts in Mizoram. He assured stakeholders that every rupee contributed would be used transparently and effectively to create meaningful impact.
This portal was developed in collaboration between the Mizoram CSR Cell, under the Planning and Programme Implementation Department, and UNDP India, with the aim to streamline communication and coordination between CSR donors and implementing agencies. Lalduhoma noted that, according to CSR data for the fiscal year 2023–24, Mizoram has only received 0.06% of India’s total CSR spending.
Emphasizing CSR’s vital role in socio-economic development, the Chief Minister revealed that a CSR Cell was established in his office in June 2024 to bolster CSR initiatives within the state. He mentioned that the launch of the Mizoram CSR Connect portal represents a significant advancement in connecting CSR donors with those in need through a transparent digital platform. This initiative is expected to simplify the process of engaging in CSR activities in Mizoram while ensuring accountability and measurable results for corporations involved.
The event also featured the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Mizoram Start-Up Mission and various corporate and institutional partners, showcasing further commitment to fostering development through strategic collaboration.
