Bollywood’s celebrated singer Arijit Singh shocked fans nationwide on January 27 by announcing his retirement from playback singing. In a heartfelt post on Instagram, he expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received over the years, stating that he would no longer take on new assignments. “Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years. I am happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off,” he wrote.
In addition to his Instagram announcement, Arijit shared further reflections on his private X account. While he will be stepping away from playback singing, he plans to continue creating music independently and exploring new artistic avenues. “God has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music, and in the future, I will be learning more and doing more on my own as a small little artist,” he shared.
Arijit also reassured fans that he would honor his pending commitments, noting that some of his previously recorded songs could still be released this year. He emphasized that this choice was a personal one aimed at fostering his artistic growth, clarifying that it does not signify a complete withdrawal from music. The announcement sparked an outpouring of disbelief and shock on social media, as fans commemorated his iconic hits such as “Tum Hi Ho,” “Binte Dil,” and “Kesariya,” which have defined a significant era in Hindi film music.
Arijit Singh, who is also a composer, producer, and instrumentalist, began his journey in the music industry with the reality show “Fame Gurukul” in 2005 and made his Hindi film debut in 2011 with “Phir Mohabbat” from “Murder 2.” Over the years, he has garnered numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards, and was honored with the Padma Shri in 2025.
