Shocking: Manipur and Mizoram Hotel Staff Allege Illegal Confinement at Chennai Hotel
Three employees hailing from Manipur and Mizoram have accused the management of Chennai Gateway Hotel of illegally detaining and assaulting them on charges of stealing Rs 1.5 lakh from the premises. The accusers, who worked at the Ignite Bar within the hotel, claim they were confined and beaten over allegations of financial misappropriation.
According to Chennai Police sources, the waiters stated they were detained and physically assaulted on a Saturday evening. In response, the hotel management has refuted these allegations, asserting that the employees had engaged in financial fraud. Reportedly, when the hotel’s card payment system malfunctioned, the staff resorted to using their personal Google Pay accounts to process payments, transferring the money to the hotel’s account afterward and retaining a 10% tip as per their routine.
The issue gained public attention when Dr. Aiswarya Rao, a social worker, highlighted the incident on social media platform X. The Chennai Police have since taken note and initiated an investigation, awaiting bank statements to verify the claims. As of now, no arrests have been made.
A police officer noted that one of the accused waiters has been with the hotel for four years, another for one year, and the third for four months. The police assure a comprehensive investigation and appropriate action post-probe.
The case underscores the complex dynamics between management and staff in the hospitality industry, raising questions about financial practices and employee treatment. Authorities are examining all aspects to ensure a fair and just conclusion to the matter.
