Assam Police Busts Major Drug Operation: Rs 70 Lakh Contraband Seized
On Sunday, January 18, the Assam police seized a significant consignment of contraband during an operation in the Karbi Anglong district, marking a major setback for drug trafficking networks in the region. Official sources revealed that authorities intercepted 10 kilograms of illegal drugs valued at approximately ₹70 lakh. A suspect involved in the operation was arrested, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the broader network associated with this shipment.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media platform X to announce the seizure, commending the vigilance and operational prowess of the police. He noted that traffickers mistakenly believed they could smuggle the drugs without detection. Instead, they were apprehended by the diligent efforts of the Karbi Anglong Police. Sarma reiterated the state’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy toward drugs, asserting that Assam’s roads should facilitate development, not illicit drug transfers.
“They brought opium thinking @assampolice wouldn’t notice. Instead @karbianglongpol said ‘BUSTED’!” he tweeted, further emphasizing the state’s stance on combating drug trafficking.
This latest seizure contributes to an escalating series of successful anti-drug initiatives led by the Assam Police, reinforcing the state’s ongoing “war against drugs.” These efforts aim to dismantle supply chains, arrest traffickers, and protect the youth from the devastating effects of narcotics.
