Villagers Urgently Demand Blacktopping for Jatinga-Retzawl Road in Dima Hasao
Residents of Retzawl village in Dima Hasao district are urgently calling for the immediate repair of the dilapidated Jatinga-Retzawl stretch of the old Haflong-Silchar road. They are voicing concerns that while the government focuses on major highway upgrades, critical local connectors are being overlooked.
Thilsinghluo Tuolor, the headman of Retzawl, expressed his frustration regarding this disparity. “While the government pours resources into the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch of NH-27, why is it neglecting the basic needs of villages like Retzawl, Arda, and Doheng?” he questioned.
The villages have no alternative routes, leaving residents vulnerable to a crumbling road that is often damaged by landslides and severe weather conditions. Villagers have welcomed the anticipated progress on the long-awaited Saurashtra-to-Silchar road, also known as NH-27, which a Cabinet Minister recently announced would open at least one lane by January 31. Despite this progress, locals lament that substantial relief for Retzawl and its neighboring areas remains out of reach.
The headman further appealed to the authorities, stating, “Please listen to us and properly repair this road. Blacktopping is vital for our daily lives and access to markets, schools, and healthcare.” Community leaders highlighted that the poor condition of the road worsens hardships, especially during the monsoon season, effectively isolating the villages from Haflong and other areas. Residents are hopeful that their appeal will resonate amid ongoing infrastructure efforts in the region.
