A tragic incident has brought sorrow to many families as 25 Indian pilgrims lost their lives in a devastating road accident in Nepal. On August 24, the Indian Air Force (IAF) displayed rapid humanitarian response by deploying a C-130 J aircraft to transport the mortal remains of the victims from Bharatpur, Nepal, to Jalgaon Airport in Maharashtra.
The IAF’s Media Coordination Center conveyed the urgency and compassion behind their operation through social media, stating, “Responding swiftly to a call for crucial humanitarian support, the #IAF deployed a C-130J aircraft to airlift the mortal remains of 25 Indian citizens who tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Nepal.” The IAF also expressed their deep condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery for those injured.
The accident occurred on August 23 when a bus traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu veered off the road into a river basin at Ainapahara, resulting in the death of 27 individuals and injuring 16 others. Autopsies were conducted at Bharatpur Hospital, after which the bodies were handed over to Indian authorities for transportation.
In a show of solidarity, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, alongside Maharashtra legislator Sanjay Shubhakar, visited Nepal to assess the condition of the injured. Khadse shared on social media, “Met 16 Indian nationals who were injured in the road accident yesterday and currently undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (Kathmandu) along with Home Minister of Nepal Ramesh Lekhak.”
The incident happened around 11:30 am (local time) on Friday, when the bus tumbled about 150 meters into the river. The prompt action by the Indian Air Force highlights the collaborative effort and deep empathy extended by Indian authorities in response to this tragic event.
