Transforming Lives: Delhi L-G Unveils Game-Changing Scheme to Empower Rural Women with Drone Technology
Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena inaugurated the Centre’s ambitious ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme in Singhola village, North Delhi, on Saturday. The initiative is a nationwide project designed to empower women by equipping them with drone technology skills to enhance their earning potential. In Delhi, the scheme will train 200 women, granting them drone pilot licenses and providing them with drones at subsidised costs.
These trained “Drone Didis” will be able to utilize and lease out drones for a variety of tasks, including drone surveys, event shoots, photography, video recording, and agricultural activities such as seeding and fertiliser application. According to L-G Saxena, this training will open up abundant employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for the women involved.
The first training session was marked by drone demonstrations in Singhola village, carried out by an NGO. These demonstrations are planned to take place across all districts of the national capital. Under the scheme, an investment of ₹25,000 will be dedicated to each trainee, with funds sourced through corporate social responsibility initiatives, as highlighted by Mr. Saxena.
The ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme is set to significantly improve the economic prospects of women participants, aligning with the broader goal of leveraging technology for social empowerment.
