Tragedy Strikes: Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen Dies at 72
The Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswa Bandhu Sen, passed away late Thursday night, December 25, at Aster CMI Hospital. He was 72 years old. Sen had been in serious condition since August, having suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. He was initially hospitalized in Agartala, where he underwent emergency surgery before being airlifted to Bengaluru for specialized care. Despite months of treatment, his health did not improve.
His remains are expected to be returned to Tripura on December 27. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed the news of Sen’s passing through a social media post, expressing sorrow and offering condolences to his family.
A veteran political figure, Sen served as the Speaker of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly at the time of his death. He represented the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency and had been elected to the Assembly four times. Sen began his political career with the Congress party, winning two terms, before later joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.
