Motha’s Youth Wing Rallies in Agartala Over Bangladesh Leader’s Controversial Comments

Agartala: The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the ruling BJP’s coalition partner, Tipra Motha, organized a protest outside the office of the assistant high commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala on Friday. This demonstration was held in response to alleged anti-India comments made by Hasnat Abdullah, a leader of Bangladesh’s National Citizen Party. YTF members claimed Abdullah’s remarks posed a direct threat to India’s sovereignty, as just two days prior, he had insulted India and threatened to take control of the northeastern states known as the “seven sisters.”

During the protest, participants chanted slogans against Bangladesh’s interim leadership, expressing concern over what they deemed increasingly aggressive rhetoric. YTF president Suraj Debbarma emphasized that the demonstration reflected public sentiment rather than formal political demands. He accused Abdullah of jeopardizing Indian interests while speaking near the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh.

Debbarma stated, “From in front of the assistant high commissioner’s office, we aim to convey a clear message,” underlining India’s historical role in the establishment of Bangladesh. He pointed out that despite India’s support during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971, recent comments from certain leaders portray India as an adversary.

Moreover, Debbarma indicated that repeated threats regarding the capture of the northeastern region have caused unrest among local residents. He warned that ongoing provocations could trigger heightened resistance from the populace. “If the Indian government does not properly evaluate the situation, citizens might call for more robust actions to protect territorial integrity,” he cautioned. “As responsible citizens of India, we are ready to defend our land and will not stay silent.”

Additionally, Debbarma expressed concerns about potential instability in Bangladesh as elections approach, alleging foreign interference in the interim government’s affairs. The protest concluded peacefully, but the sentiments echoed by participants signal a growing apprehension regarding regional tensions.
