Conrad Sangma Hospitalized Amid Health Concerns: Urgent Updates on Meghalaya CM’s Condition
Meghalaya News Alert: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma Hospitalized for Scrub Typhus
Shillong, Aug 23: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has been admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital after testing positive for Scrub typhus. According to a government source, Sangma has been placed in a private ward and is suffering from high fever. Medical professionals from NEIGRIHMS and Shillong Civil Hospital are currently attending to him, with his condition reported to be stable, the source added.
Due to his hospitalization, Chief Minister Sangma was absent on the first day of the autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Friday. In his stead, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong officiated. During the session, Celestine Lyngdoh was the only new NPP MLA present, while Charles Marngar and Gabriel Wahlang were notably absent.
In other developments, Adelbert Nongrum, VPP’s North Shillong MLA, proposed an amendment motion seeking additional days for the autumn session. However, this motion was rejected by the House. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prestone Tynsong and Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma cited that the session’s duration had been pre-approved by the Business Advisory Committee, making further extensions not feasible.
While the request for additional days was dismissed, Tynsong and Thomas A Sangma indicated that the session could be extended daily to allow more time for members to discuss legislative matters.
Stay tuned for further updates on the Chief Minister’s health and additional coverage from the autumn session.
