Heroic Leadership: CM Manik Saha’s Aerial Survey of Tripura Flood Devastation – A Glimmer of Hope for Northeast
AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday undertook a detailed aerial survey to assess the extensive damage caused by recent flooding in the state. Using an MI-17 helicopter from MBB Airport, he reviewed the flood situation in Shantirbazar, Belonia, Matarbari, Melaghar, Charilam, Bishalgarh, Agartala, Amarpur, and Karbook.
Following the aerial survey, Chief Minister Saha directed the District Magistrate of South Tripura to mobilize resources and provide critical support to the affected communities. “Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all,” Saha stated.
The Chief Minister also visited relief camps in the Gomati district, such as Khilpara Higher Secondary School and Khilpara Market Shed, to evaluate ongoing relief operations. He inspected the flood-stricken areas of Amarpur and Karbook and examined the severely affected regions along the Laugang and Muhuri rivers in Shantirbazar, South Tripura.
At the West Bokafa XII School relief camp, Saha assessed the camp’s management and interacted with both workers and medical teams to boost the morale of those affected. He emphasized that relief efforts are being carried out in coordination with the Central government.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places across Tripura for the next five days. Due to significant rain-induced damage to railway tracks in Gomati and South Tripura districts, the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) has cancelled several local trains.
According to the State Disaster Management Department, the floods have resulted in over 1,055 houses being either partially or fully damaged and hundreds of trees uprooted, obstructing several major highways. Preliminary estimates indicate that around 5,000 hectares of vegetable farms and 1.20 lakh hectares of other croplands remain submerged.
The situation remains critical as authorities continue to manage relief efforts amidst ongoing challenges posed by recurring rainfall and infrastructure damage.
