Urgent Action Against Pipeline Leaks: M. Appavu’s Bold Measures to Safeguard Our Water Supply
Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker M. Appavu has announced measures to address significant water leakage issues within the North Valliyoor-Panakudi Combined Drinking Water Supply Scheme (CWSS) located on the Cheranmahadevi railway premises. In a recent press release, Appavu emphasized the importance of rectifying the problem, which affects the reliable provision of drinking water to local communities.
The CWSS, sourced from the Thamirabarani River, was specifically designed to supply potable water to 165 rural habitations across 30 village panchayats, as well as the town panchayats of Panakudi and North Valliyoor in the Radhapuram constituency. However, a major leak has been reported in the 450 mm MS main drinking water connection pipeline situated within the Cheranmahadevi railway boundary area.
To expedite repairs, Appavu stated that a formal request has been sent to the Manager (Works) of the Madurai Railway Division, seeking the necessary permissions for the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board to commence repair work. “Once we receive approval from the railway administration, we will ensure the repair process begins promptly, restoring uninterrupted access to drinking water for residents,” he remarked.
The urgency of this situation underscores the ongoing commitment of local authorities to maintain essential water supply services, particularly in areas heavily reliant on the CWSS. The collaboration between the Tamil Nadu government and railway officials aims to swiftly resolve the leakage issue, thereby safeguarding the health and well-being of the affected communities.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the progress of the repairs, as officials work diligently to restore the water supply. With the approval anticipated soon, local leaders are hopeful that repairs will commence shortly, alleviating the water scarcity challenges faced in the area.
By taking proactive measures and maintaining open lines of communication with the public, Tamil Nadu officials are demonstrating their dedication to effective governance and community welfare. This case not only highlights the vital importance of infrastructure maintenance but also reflects the ongoing efforts to provide essential services to rural populations.
As updates unfold, the local community remains optimistic about the swift resolution and continued access to clean drinking water, a fundamental right for every citizen.
