Purabi Dairy Slashes Prices Following GST Cut: Essential Savings for Assam Residents
Consumers in Assam and the Northeast are set to enjoy lower prices for popular Purabi Dairy products due to recent reductions in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) approved by the 56th GST Council. North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), which distributes Purabi products manufactured by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL), announced that these price changes will take effect on September 22.
Products including Purabi Paneer, Ghee, Flavoured Milk, Ice Cream, and UHT Milk will be available at reduced rates. Under the new GST framework, paneer and UHT milk are exempt from tax, while the GST on ice cream has been slashed from 18% to 5%, and ghee has dropped from 12% to 5%. Consequently, the entire Purabi product line now falls under either the nil or lowest GST category.
Specifically, the price of Purabi Paneer (200g) has been decreased from Rs. 95 to Rs. 92, Purabi Ghee (500ml) from Rs. 450 to Rs. 420, and Purabi Flavoured Milk from Rs. 30 to Rs. 25. Additionally, the UHT Smart 1-litre pack will now be priced at Rs. 74, and ice cream prices have been lowered across all varieties.
WAMUL’s Managing Director, S.K. Parida, expressed optimism that the GST reforms will make dairy products more affordable and accessible, leading to increased demand and sector growth. “It will empower farmers, drive sustainable growth, and fuel India’s rural economy. Purabi Dairy remains committed to ensuring these benefits reach every household,” he stated.
S.B. Bose, Managing Director of NEDFL, added that the company is directly passing the GST benefits to consumers while ensuring that the price cuts stimulate demand and provide support to thousands of dairy farmers linked to WAMUL and EAMUL.
