Tragic Dowry Death in Greater Noida: Heart-Wrenching Videos of Victim Nikki Driving Her Mercedes Resurface Days After Murder
Four days after the tragic death of Nikki Bhati, a victim of dowry-related violence in Greater Noida, a throwback video featuring her has gone viral online. Nikki, 28, was allegedly set ablaze by her husband, Vipin Bhati, and in-laws over escalating dowry demands, and she succumbed to her injuries en route to a hospital in Delhi.
In the video shared by Nikki’s sister Kanchan, she is seen smiling while driving a Mercedes, capturing the moment from the driver’s seat. This poignant glimpse into her life stands in stark contrast to the disturbing scenarios reported following her death.
Witnesses have recounted harrowing accounts of domestic abuse. Recordings made by Kanchan allegedly show Vipin dragging Nikki by the hair, followed by chilling footage of her engulfed in flames. Following these events, investigative authorities have confirmed that all four suspects named in Nikki’s case have been arrested.
Residents of Sirsa village have voiced concerns regarding ongoing disputes within the Bhati family, particularly centering on the social media activities of Nikki and Kanchan, who ran a beauty parlour from their home. Neighbors reported that both sisters were avid Instagram users, often posting makeover reels that met with disapproval from their husbands. “They both used to make reels related to the makeover and share it on social media,” a neighbor noted. “But both Rohit and Vipin did not like it and used to object.”
Tensions reportedly escalated following a March 11 argument between the sisters and their spouses, leading to the involvement of local community leaders, or panchayat. According to other locals, a decision was made mandating that the sisters cease their social media activities. Despite this ruling, they resumed making reels shortly thereafter, which some believe contributed to ongoing friction within the household.
Nikki’s family has alleged a long history of abuse and escalating dowry demands since her marriage in 2016, claiming they provided a Scorpio SUV, motorcycle, and gold jewelry to her in-laws. However, demands reportedly grew to an alarming ₹36 lakh in cash along with a luxury car. In a significant development, all four accused were apprehended shortly after Nikki’s death.
Vipin Bhati was arrested on Saturday but suffered a gunshot wound to the leg during what officials described as an escape attempt. His mother, Daya, was captured later near GIMS Hospital, while Vipin’s father, Satveer Bhati, and brother, Rohit, were arrested soon after.
This tragic incident sheds light on the pernicious issue of dowry-related violence in India, prompting renewed conversations about women’s rights and protections against domestic abuse. The community has rallied in support of Nikki’s family, urging for justice and accountability in cases of gender-based violence.
As investigations progress, the Bhati family’s case has galvanised public attention on the urgent need for societal change regarding dowry practices, aiming to remind the community that such violence cannot be tolerated. Nikki Bhati’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges many women face and the systemic change needed to protect their rights.
