4.3 Magnitude Quake Strikes Nagaon: Assam’s Seventh Tremor This Month
An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck Nagaon district in Assam on Monday, making it the seventh tremor felt in the state during this month. According to officials, this incident marks the third earthquake in the Nagaon district alone this month. Thankfully, no immediate reports of casualties or property damage have emerged. The National Center for Seismology reported that the quake occurred at 12:09 PM, with a depth of 35 kilometers. Tremors were experienced not just in Nagaon but also in surrounding areas. This tremor comes after two previous earthquakes in Nagaon: a 3.8-magnitude quake on August 7 and a 2.8-magnitude quake just a day later. Overall, Assam has reported seven earthquakes in August, with magnitudes varying from 2.8 to 4.3. The northeastern region of India is situated in a high seismic zone, which makes it susceptible to frequent earthquakes.
