CID Uncovers Shocking Fake Appointment Letter Scam in Assam: Six Arrested
Guwahati: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended six individuals linked to a fraudulent appointment letter scheme within Assam’s Water Resources Department, officials announced on Sunday. Among those arrested is a candidate from the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) who was running in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. This candidate is accused of accepting bribes in exchange for job placements.
Investigators revealed that a complaint submitted in February by the Chief Engineer’s office pointed out that falsified appointment letters, complete with forged signatures, were being distributed across various divisions of the department. Further inquiries indicated that one of the suspects had been depositing substantial amounts of money into the BTC candidate’s bank account, suggesting a direct involvement in the distribution of these counterfeit letters to unsuspecting job seekers.
Authorities confirmed that all six suspects have been taken into custody, and the investigation continues as they seek to uncover the full extent of the scam.
